1st STrengthS4WineChaiN Seminar brings together universities and businesses.
CITAB (UTAD) is coordinating the STrengthS4WineChaiN project, which aims to enhance the sustainability and resilience of the wine supply chain in the Douro, Vinhos Verdes and Trás-os-Montes regions. Led by José Moutinho Pereira, the consortium brings together UTAD, University of Minho and University of Porto.
The project aims to address the challenges of climate change — such as rising temperatures and water scarcity — through the development of innovative scientific and technological solutions. Among the objectives are the creation of wines with lower alcohol content, the valorisation of wine by-products and the promotion of a circular economy and zero-waste.
With the ambition of reaching technology readiness level TRL7, STrengthS4WineChaiN is being developed along three main lines:
- Innovation and technology for sustainability;
- Resilient and environmentally sustainable viticulture;
- Innovative products in the wine sector.
During the event, researchers, companies and public institutions came together to share knowledge and align strategies, affirming STrengthS4WineChaiN as a strategic project for viticulture in Northern Portugal, which transforms climate challenges into opportunities for innovation and competitiveness.
