Special Issue on Medicinal Plants and Neurodegenerative Diseases 

The scientific journal Applied Sciences is currently accepting submissions for the special issue “Application of Medicinal Plants in Neurodegenerative Disorders”, with CITAB researchers Nádia Rei and Liliana Machado Carvalho serving as guest editors. 

Neurodegenerative diseases pose a growing global health challenge due to their increasing prevalence, socioeconomic impact, and the limited availability of therapies capable of modifying the progression of these diseases. In this context, medicinal plants and their bioactive compounds have garnered particular interest as potential sources of new neuroprotective agents. 

This Special Issue aims to highlight the most recent advances in the discovery, characterisation, and therapeutic application of medicinal plants, plant extracts, and bioactive compounds in the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, bringing together contributions from different fields, such as pharmacology, neuroscience, natural product research, biotechnology, and medicine. 

Researchers and potential authors are invited to submit original research articles, review articles, and other scientific works, ranging from phytochemical and pharmacological studies to preclinical, clinical, and translational research.
