International Zero Waste Day

Through innovative scientific projects, CITAB actively contributes to waste prevention, the recovery of by-products and the efficient use of natural resources.

International Zero Waste Day, observed on 30 March, highlights the importance of reducing waste generation and promoting sustainable models based on resource efficiency and the circular economy.

Through innovative scientific projects, CITAB actively contributes to waste prevention, the recovery of by-products and the efficient use of natural resources.

Among the key initiatives, the Wasteless project focuses on reducing food waste throughout the entire value chain, promoting solutions that extend the shelf life of food and encourage its reuse. This approach contributes directly to reducing losses and minimising the environmental impact of food systems.

At the same time, several of CITAB’s research lines are dedicated to the valorisation of agro-industrial waste, transforming by-products into new materials, ingredients or value-added solutions. These contributions reinforce the transition towards a more circular and sustainable economy.

CITAB’s research thus reflects a clear commitment to the principles of International Zero Waste Day: reduce, reuse and recover, promoting more efficient and resilient production systems.
