At the invitation of JN, the Director of our Centre, João Santos, warns of the danger of misinformation when politicians say that the weather events that have occurred have never happened in the country before.

"What I can say, based on research in this area, which has been going on for 30 years, is that this type of event is not new in Portugal. There have been many situations in the past with events of similar intensity and with these so-called “storm trains” or other names that people give them. The names vary with the seasons, but the process and mechanisms are the same."
