CITAB (UTAD) brings the LivingSoiLL project to the Serralves BioBlitz 🌱

Organised by the Serralves Foundation, the BioBlitz Soil Festival is one of the largest events raising awareness of biodiversity protection in Portugal, establishing itself as a leading scientific and educational initiative in the fields of science, environmental education, biodiversity and sustainability, aimed at the educational community, families and the general public.

In this edition, which took place between 20 and 26 April, soil took centre stage, standing out as an essential element for the future of the planet. Throughout the event, topics such as soil biodiversity, erosion, conservation, sustainable agricultural practices and the vital role of this resource in the health of ecosystems were addressed. The aim was clear: to engage communities, artists, scientists and citizens in reflection and action regarding the relationship between society and soil, reinforcing the international dimension of the BioBlitz and promoting dialogue between science, art and citizenship.

In this context, the LivingSoiLL project was invited to join the Espaço Missão Solo, sharing a space with the winning entries from the SOILSCAPE Hackathons in Portugal and France. Our participation stood out for the implementation of hands-on activities, promoting the involvement of different audiences and creating memorable experiences!

It was an important opportunity to raise awareness of soil literacy among the school community and the general public, highlighting the importance of preserving this non-renewable natural resource on a human scale. The event highlighted the central role of soil as the basis for food production, how its biodiversity contributes to more sustainable production, and how the agricultural sector has been promoting soil conservation initiatives as part of the LivingSoiLL project.

Thank you to everyone who took part and visited our stand! 🌱
