LivingSoiLL Participates in the Geração Ciência Festival – Science, Health, and Technology Days 🌱🔬

On May 14 and 15, Vila Nova de Foz Côa hosted another edition of the Geração Ciência Festival – Science, Health, and Technology Days, an initiative dedicated to promoting scientific literacy and bridging the gap between science, education, and the community. The event was the result of a partnership between the Côa Museum – Centro Ciência Viva, Ciência Viva, the Tenente-Coronel Adão Carrapatoso School Group, and the Municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa.

Over the course of two days, the festival transformed various iconic spaces in the city into hubs for scientific discovery, featuring hands-on workshops, interactive activities, discussion sessions with researchers, and initiatives focused on health, sustainability, biodiversity, and technological innovation. The program was designed to engage students, teachers, families, and the general public, fostering a dynamic and participatory educational experience.

The Living SoiLL project was present throughout the two-day festival with hands-on activities focused on the importance of soil health, biodiversity, and sustainable agricultural practices. Through experiments, demonstrations, and creative activities, knowledge was shared about soil and soil health and their importance in preserving ecosystems, food production, and building more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.

In this context, the project reinforces its strategic role in promoting soil literacy by carrying out awareness-raising and training activities among educational communities in the priority intervention areas: Trás-os-Montes (Alfândega da Fé, Vila Flor, Moncorvo, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, and Miranda do Douro), the Douro sub-region (São João da Pesqueira and Tabuaço), and Beira Interior (Guarda, Mêda, and Belmonte), thereby consolidating a comprehensive dissemination strategy.

The festival and the Living SoiLL project’s participation created an extraordinary moment of sharing, learning, and engagement with the school community and the general public, helping to reinforce the importance of preserving living soil as an essential resource for the planet’s future.
