National Scientists' Day

In this context, the work developed at CITAB seeks to bring science closer to the real needs of the community, promoting applied and collaborative research in areas related to the environment, agriculture, sustainability, and the valorisation of natural resources.

On National Scientists' Day, it is important to recognise the fundamental role of science in building solutions to current environmental, social, and economic challenges. Scientific research has an increasingly direct impact on society, contributing to knowledge production, innovation, and the sustainable development of territories. In this context, the work developed at CITAB seeks to bring science closer to the real needs of the community, promoting applied and collaborative research in areas related to the environment, agriculture, sustainability, and the valorisation of natural resources.

In the context of my scientific activity, I have focused on Nature-based Solutions for adaptation to climate change, assessment of ecosystem services, biodiversity monitoring, and ecological diagnosis. My doctoral thesis is being developed in the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, a territory that combines cultural and natural heritage, allowing us to explore the relationship between conservation, sustainability, and climate adaptation. I have also collaborated on activities of the “Rios Vivos” project, promoted by the Plataforma de Ciência Aberta and funded by the company Tauck, whose main objective is to promote ecological restoration and the enhancement of riparian ecosystems. These projects seek to contribute to the improvement and conservation of ecosystems, reinforcing the importance of scientific research in the production of useful, accessible knowledge with a positive impact on society.
