BEESUSTAIN – Sustentabilidade da Apicultura face às Alterações Climáticas: inovação e produtos de excelência
The impact of climate change on the transformation of natural ecosystems is evident, and as a result, beekeeping faces challenges never encountered before. Losses in honey productivity resulting from irregular flowering patterns, or bee mortality associated with problems of poor nutrition, pests and diseases, require a new approach to beekeeping. The project redirects this economic activity towards the authentication of high-quality products, such as excellent monofloral honeys (chestnut, rosemary and heather), brands of the territories in which it operates, and towards the diversification of production as a guarantee of the sustainability of the farm, introducing new products from the hive with high market potential, such as bee bread. The future sustainability of beekeeping depends on its recognition, so technical dissemination among beekeepers will be complemented by the design of educational materials for dissemination among school-age children.
