IAOlivais - Inteligência Artificial na Otimização da Rega para Olivais Resilientes às Alterações Climáticas

UTAD/CITAB Coordinator: Anabela Afonso Fernandes da Silva

Olive orchard face increasing challenges related to water scarcity and prolonged drought periods, exacerbated by climate change, with significant impacts on productivity and economic sustainability. This project proposes the development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)–based system to predict and monitor the water and nutritional needs of olive groves, using atmospheric and soil conditions as inputs. Integrated into drip irrigation systems, the solution will enable efficient water management. In parallel, an AI model will be developed to optimize potassium (K) application, a key nutrient for plant growth and drought stress tolerance. The final outcome will be an integrated decision-support software that promotes the rational use of water and nutrients, strengthening the resilience of olive trees to climate change.
